My #health & #hcmktg Resolutions
By KT McGraw – @KTMcGraw_HIT
Hey there December 1, 2011 – where did you come from?! Seems like just yesterday it was May and the weather here in Boston (until today) is still more indicative of spring than winter. Nonetheless, we are amidst the glitz and glimmer of the holiday season which, in turn, means resolution making and breaking is just starting to cross some of our minds (mine at the very least).
According to USA.gov, the top reoccurring resolutions for Americans include predictable attempts to drink less alcohol, get fit and find a way to improve finances. What’s more interesting to consider though are the myriad of tips to make a resolution a reality. After all, it’s one thing to talk about doing something, it’s a whole different endeavor to see your resolution full circle. Below are some key tips to consider to help make your resolution a reality:
- Be specific about not only what you’re going to do, but also how you’re going to do it
- Don’t try to create a whole new you, be focused on what you want to change (say 1-3 ideas max) and hone in on those and those alone
- Have fun with it and realize you’re going to fail at some point along the way but the true test will be whether you chose to get back on the pony
- Find someone who shares your same resolution and leverage them as a resource and strong hold so you can fight the good fight together
On a personal health level, my own more specific resolutions include the following:
- Eat less cheese and chocolate (sad) by keeping healthy alternatives at home and in the office
- Incorporate weight training into my evening workout routine on Mon., Tues. and Thur. – yeah five-pound dumbbells!
- Find one reoccurring volunteer opportunity and make a commitment to it – it’s a fact, volunteering can help improve your health and well-being (thank you Mayo Clinic for this insight)
And, on the flip professional side, my top three resolutions are as follows:
- Spend more time networking face-to-face vs. purely digital relationship building
- Read more tangential topical books – “Little Bets” contains some good reminders as to the
importance of surrounding yourself with knowledge and people outside your area of expertise - Take a more focused, engaged approach to traditional and social media – in other words, move from content sharing and reading to content creation and real-time, more actively involved engagement in the form of Twitter chats and show attendance
So, what are your own health and/or healthcare marketing resolutions for 2012? More so, what are your tips and tricks for taking a resolution from concept to reality? And if you’re looking for simple engagement on your health IT or health provider Facebook and/or LinkedIn pages or even for your Twitter handles, feel free to borrow and use these queries with your own audiences. Inquiring minds want to know and are probably having similar thoughts this time of year…
